Monica Lopez-Barnard practices primarily family law for Hamilton-Grant Texas handling cases in Dallas, Tarrant, Collin, Kaufman, Denton, Rockwall, Parker, Johnson, Ellis, Wise, Lubbock and Ector counties. Monica also handles pre-trial criminal defense matters for HG. Prior to joining HG and beginning family law, Monica practiced in the area of higher education law at Lubbock Christian University in Lubbock, TX for ten years.
Monica is a 1998 graduate of Lubbock Monterey High School, a 2002 cum laude graduate of Lubbock Christian University with a Bachelor of Arts in psychology and a 2005 graduate of Texas Tech University School of Law. Upon graduation from Tech Law, Monica joined the administration of Lubbock Christian University as the university’s first general counsel, a position she proudly held until the Spring of 2015. Deciding it was time for a change of pace, Monica began practicing family law in DFW and joined HG Texas in the fall of 2018.
Monica began practicing family law because of her desire to help families through difficult times. Monica believes in the importance of protecting children from the realities of family law issues and encourages clients to focus on what is best for their children in their family legal battles. Additionally, Monica believes in diligently and passionately protecting the interests of her clients to ensure a bright future for their families. Monica takes pride in the fact that her clients have easy access to her and rarely work with paralegals or assistants.
Monica is married to her high school sweetheart, Zack. Together, they have 3 children, two girls ages 11 and 8 and one boy age 5. They also have one yorkie mix rescue named Chica. When she is not working, Monica is supermom shuttling kids from softball, baseball, soccer and theater classes and swooning over her niece and nephew. She also enjoys coaching her daughter’s soccer team and serving as softball and baseball team mom. If there is any “free” time, Monica loves crafting with her Cricut and catching up on her favorite TV Shows (The Office, Dateline, The Resident, 9-1-1 and several others). Monica is a member and welcome center volunteer at Living Church in Mansfield, TX.
